About Us

From humble beginnings servicing the fine arts market and film industries to become one of Sydney’s biggest furniture removalist companies.

The Man and His Van removalist van was first seen on the Sydney streets in January 1993. There was an opening for competitively priced and reliable removalist in the Sydney antique and fine arts sector and Man and His Van took advantage of this opportunity.

Working seven days a week, we had relationships with the individual antique markets and antique dealers. We were also the main carriers for some of the leading Sydney auction houses specializing in antiques and fine arts. Those early days would also involve hanging around on-site house actions on a Sunday afternoon to pick up the delivery work for the Sunday night and Monday. The other days we would be engaged by the exclusive furniture shops such as Design Warehouse, delivering those large expensive items, that needed unconventional methods to get them positioned in the clients home.

The Sydney film industry was booming at this time and we were kept busy picking up and delivering props for film and photographic shoots. Many of the antique dealers and furniture shops would insist the props could only be moved by Man and His Van.

“If you don’t use Man and His Van you don’t get my stuff for your film”

Yes, we certainly did the hard yards before moving into home removals.

Household removals were the natural progression, and the packing and moving skills picked up from the antique industry and designer furniture shops were put to good use.

With furniture removals came the demand for storage. We could only store so much customer furniture in our lounge room’ and the spare bedroom was full to capacity; so necessity dictated renting our first commercial property in 1995. Warning letters from Manly Council about operating a removals business from a residential street in Balgowlah further expedited the process. We purchased that same property a year later from our landlord. Unit 6, 91-93 Old Pittwater Road, Brookvale, was our first property and still remains the headquarters of the Man and His Van operation to this day.

The busier we became the more the demand for storage. We made the easy decision to purchase more buildings to cope with the storage demand. Man and His Van now own and operate four storage facilities in the Sydney area. Unlike our storage competitors, our storage is designed for furniture. We pride ourselves with the great care taken when moving our client’s belongings into our stores.

Quality removal services

These days we have condensed the business to ensure that quality of removals service. The advertising has been cut right back as we mainly look after our existing client base and new referrals from our established clients. Many clients have been with us for over 20 years and demand the quality, reliable service, at a reasonable cost that we offer. Our well trained and experienced team have mostly been together for many years and are capable of taking on the most testing of moving work.

Any business expansion has been in the storage side of things. Having the four properties pretty much always ensures we have storage room available for our clients. Saying that we need to keep the storage coming in, so we are able to offer the specialist furniture storage at highly competitive pricing.
