Freshwater’s History

The suburb of Freshwater was appropriately named after the Freshwater stream which ran down to the beach. The stream is long gone, and in 1923 the area was renamed Harbord. After much public consultation, the suburb was officially returned to its original name, Freshwater, in 2008—and will remain so until the next wave of sentimentality clamours for Harbord.
